Forbidden & Hazardous Items in Interstate Moving
One can of paint thinner, a single propane tank, or a bottle of bleach hidden in a box can result in fines up to $175,000, forced unloading, or total shipment rejection. At Illinois Movers Inc., we strictly follow federal law.

Frequently Asked Questions – FMCSA Rules
Can I pack a small can of spray paint?
No — even sealed aerosol cans are prohibited in interstate household goods shipments due to pressurized gas regulations.
What about my BBQ propane tank?
Absolutely not. Any propane or compressed gas tank must be completely emptied and purged by a professional before transport, and even then, many carriers (including us) prefer they be left behind for safety.
Are batteries allowed?
Batteries are allowed if they are installed in their devices. However, loose lithium batteries and car (lead-acid) batteries are strictly banned.
Can I bring my cleaning supplies?
No. Bleach, ammonia, and drain cleaner are classified as corrosives or toxics and cannot be transported on an interstate truck.
What if I accidentally pack something?
Our team will find it during the mandatory pre-load inspection and remove it. There is no judgment—we just ensure your load is 100% compliant with federal law.
